By investing in an experience or an object you are supporting the creation of
The Rural School of Arts as a legacy project.

A unique interdisciplinary arts school in central Portugal to rekindle our bond with the earth. To awaken the bridge to our nature and enhance the vitality, connection and nourishment of creativity.
A vision very much inspired by Black Mountain College.

The Rural School of Arts will become a place for artists, leaders, thinkers and the curious who seek authenticity, individuality and meaningful experiences

A place to explore the question
What if things were made for the purpose of beauty, connection and elevation? In harmony with the world and the resources around us.

We are in the las
t few weeks of our raise to buy 24 hectares of magical wild land, saving it from developers and enabling it to become the nest for the school and a root for all the teachings.
The land will be held in trust by an Association to create a legacy project for generations to come.

All donations from this raise will be received by Ilha Ltd 16577859, a not-for-profit company registered in England and Wales. The donations will be used  to acquire the land needed to establish The Rural School of Arts and begin building the School through a teaching program of Living Crafts. The long-term vision is to explore creating a legal structure where the land owns itself.

The Rural School of Arts is centred around an offering of
land based teachings in living crafts:
building, woodwork, metalwork, textiles and ceramics.
Alongside this, Image crafts: cinema, moving image and photography.
Ecological poetics: intuitive architecture,
intergenerational teaching and care.
With some wonderful makers and practitioners.

To teach the skills of the hand, land and heart.

To celebrate the traditional skills still alive in the rural villages.
Here we imagine a holistic and healing place, driven
by creativity, community and collective guardianship.
A land that comes to own itself
